Brazilian Philately: The Pan Am Zeppelin Flight of 1930 |
Rudolf Friedl
The stamp dealer, Rudolf Friedl (*12 may, 1862 in Moravia – now Czech republic, †1942), was one of the premier dealers in Austria, located in Wien/Vienna. He was one of the seven founding members in 1906 of the Austrian Stamp and Coin Dealers Association. He was also strongly involved in the preparations and execution of the 1933 WIPA show. The ad displayed below (in the same magazine issue as the Behrens ad), shows that he also had Brazilian stamps as a specialty.
But no general connection to an offer of Zeppelin covers is discernible. On this flight besides some Brazilian covers I have only seen examples with German stamps on them. The Brazilian covers are below, again produced with the good offices of Costa & Filho again as one finds by many other European and American Dealers.
Again the infamous Friedrichslafen envelope getting used.
Sources on the web indicate that he gave up the store in 1934, and the entry in the commercial register was extinguished, beginning 1940, shortly before his death (Der Sammlerfreund 14(1), 9 (January 1940)).
