Brazilian Philately: The Pan Am Zeppelin Flight of 1930 |
Charles Winchell
One often sees a type of picture post card as displayed below with a small picture of Eckener and the Zeppelin, that doesn't seem to be addressed anywhere, even though they all carry a typical vM# on the front. Below one sees a typical front and reverse of these cards with a rubber stamped Rio de Janeiro – Pernambuco on the Zeppelin itself. This being the 59A version. Just as important, each card has on the reverse lower left corner a five digit red number that starts with 600xx. The lowest I've seen so far is 60011 and the highest 60058, thus several dozen of these were made at the time.
Another version of these cards, Rio de Janeiro – Lakehurst on the Zeppelin – the 59D, yields the author, Charles Winchell of NYC stamped his address on the reverse of this variety, thus the winchell#s.
