Libya, Gates and the No-Fly Zone
When I listen, on the news, to Secretary Of Defense Gates, I really wonder about the USA. What's up? All this talk about destroying the air defense assets etc. etc. Sorry but either the US Air Force is scared silly of that super power Libya or its just a lot of B.S.
One needs only to keep an eye on a slender strip of the coastline. That can even be done with UAVs, armed with radar seeking and anti-aircraft missiles. “Allied” aircraft could patrol out at sea and use long range missiles.
Once a few of Qaddafi's heroes have been picked off, the rest will need a change of underwear and probably swallow very hard before going up in the air. Eventually, the enlarged Maltese Air Force ( composed of all the Libyan planes flown there by deserters) could handle it alone.
When I listen to Gates, I wonder what happened to the “home of the brave”, will the eagle in the Pentagons arms be replaced by a chicken? I always think of the saying used at Stalingrad by the Wehrmacht officers; “do you plan to live forever”?
If not always legally (i. e. International law) then at least morally, every country must interdict and stop genocide in all its forms.
And isn't it the USA that always claims the moral high ground.
